I'm glad you didn't watch the show when it was on TV. I had to watch it unfortunately because Ren and Stimpy (a Nickelodeon classic, even if it was gross and weird) would be on after that. And I agree that Doug is a loser, but have you ever noticed that Doug and Charlie Brown are alike? Here are some observations:
1) Both are bald, bland losers with no personality or redeemable qualities to them.
2) Both have horrible fashion sense.
3) Both have quirky, secretly gay friends (Linus= Charlie; Doug= Skeeter--the blue kid)
4) Both are head over heels in love with plain-jane, vanilla girls who aren't stacked like brick houses, to paraphrase the song by The Commodores (CB= The little redheaded girl; Doug; Patty Mayonnaise)
5) Both have dogs who are smarter than they are (CB= Snoopy; Doug= Porkchop
6) Both get pushed around by kids older than they are (CB= Lucy; Doug; Roger Klotz)
7) Both suck at sports.
8) Both mope around and talk about their petty problems.
9) Both have bratty sisters (Doug= Judy, the crazy art student; CB= Sally, who has a crush on Linus)
10) Both series have been made into movies.
