LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor Dennis Quaid, who two weeks ago announced a separation from wife Meg Ryan, has filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, court papers showed on Wednesday.
The split between 38-year-old Ryan, one of Hollywood's most bankable romantic comedy movie stars, and Quaid, 46, took place eight weeks ago and was described as ``mutual and amicable.''
Quaid, in his divorce papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court late on Tuesday, sought joint custody of their 8-year- old son Jack.
Ryan, star of hits like ``You've Got Mail'' and ``Sleepless in Seattle,'' has become Hollywood's favorite sweetheart since marrying Quaid on Valentine's Day in 1991.
Quaid, who starred in the steamy 1987 thriller ``The Big Easy'' counts the 1998 remake of ``The Parent Trap'' and this year's ``Frequency'' among his recent hits.
The couple first met in 1987 while making the comedy- adventure ``Innerspace'' and teamed up again a year later on ``D.O.A'' when they started dating.
(All I can say is....Do you really think Meg Ryan is only 38??)
