I have to take issue Eamon. That shooting someone in the leg stuff can be a very bad idea. It all depends on the situation, but if you reasonably feared for your life in close qaurters, aiming for a leg could get you killed. I have thought I would try to do that in a situation were I had to use a gun on say a unarmed assailant also, but it is risky. Depends on the distance between you and them, and I wouldn't take too many chances. Most self defense experts would advise against it regardless. Especially for a woman who is likely not that proficient with the weapon. Besides, their's a major artery in the leg, so they could bleed to death easily anyway, it's not exactly "safe" to the assailant, though it *may* be safer than shooting them in the torso/chest area. It depends on the situation, I didn't see the show.
