If they're homegrown Iraqis, then you might call them "resistance fighters". But you can't if they're part of the hundreds of fighters that supposedly have been entering Iraq to fight the Americans.
Are resistance fighters those that fight resistance? Why do they call people who fight fires, firefighters and people who are fighting for their freedom, freedom fighters? Why, oh why, is this so?
