As Paul states in his letters in the Bible, let everyone come at there own accord (something like that.) It is not christian to force others into christianity. These are misconceptions, misinterpretations, or simply man trying to fill his own agenda. For example, Hernan Cortez landed at South America, supposedly came in the name of god, and then slaughtered half the population and forced the rest to convert to christianity. This is not christianity. Neither were the crusades. Jesus' disciples asked Jesus if they should rain fire on a city that wouldn't accept them, and Jesus refused saying that he came to save souls and not destroy them. If people don't accept christianity, like the Muslim population during the crusades, you can't simply wipe them out, it is not what Jesus said to do. Unfortunately, certain religious leaders of the times are misrepresenting christianity, and making it look bad, when it's not.
