I agree. But believe it or not, at one time, there were actually interesting basement threads. They all got killed though, and new ones aren't forming--at least ones that I know about--due to the lack of server space. (They usually get erased long before they can/could turn into basements.)

Maybe so, but the place just isn't the same without them. (In my opinion.)

They're not. But we're not running out of a shortage of political discussions here.
And as you said, if one's not any more valid than another, why shouldn't I be complaining at the demise or downfall of one?
Besides, I don't think ANY movie review site *that changes topics every week* has a high ratio of on topic/off topic posts.
Thing is, I would talk about the movies being reviewed--if I saw them...
If Mr. Cranky wants more general discussions about movies, he should get rid of all these movie-specific MBs and just create one general MB to replace it. (Of course this assumes that us regular C-landers wouldn't abuse that board.)

This place has a different appeal to different folks.
Some like the socializing--the "lighter" discussions. Others like the political discussions. I'm personally drawn to this place because, unlike real life, I can be frank, and honest. Things aren't so political...
Now, to be frank and honest, I don't want to be frank about dick.
I don't even want to talk about it. Well, not for too long, anyway...
I think its unfair to dismiss anyone who doesn't want to participate in "light" discussions 24/7 as psuedo-intellectuals who want the world to tremor at their great intelligence....
Believe it or not, some of us just don't like dick.
