02/06/97: Re: What a sad follow-up to Escape from New York

I agree totally, Escape From New York is one of my favorite movies of all time and I watch it over and over. I was in shock when I heard that Escape From LA was coming out. I waited and waited till the very first night it came out and ran to see it and I was almost depressed instead of just dissapointed because I didn't think it would be possible for it to be anything less then awesome but it was far from that. Escape from NY was made in 1980 and the special effects are about the best I've seen to date whereas Escape From LA looks like Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes including cartoon sequences to the point that Snake's sub almost gets eaten by Jabber Jaws. Kurt Russel was still Snake Plisken to the point where Escape From LA was watchable but the script, special effects, and other actors were some of the worst I've ever seen. Stacey Keach was good Steve Buscumi or whatever his name was rediculously annoying and the president's daughter was beautiful but I would loved to have seen Adrienne Barbeau again even though she was killed in the first one even if it was just a cameo. I rented Escape from LA on tape out of respect for my love for Escape From New York and hoped my opinion would change since I saw it in the theater but unfortunately it didn't. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.
