But I agree in the case of The Birds...no explaination makes the whole thing much creepier. It's the best of the animals attack horror/fantasy movie. Well, after Night of the Lepus.
Others include:
Frogs(only creepy if you live in rural Michigan)
Empire of the Ants (Joan Collins looking quite fuckable)
THEM! (pre Birds)
Kingdom of the Spiders (Shanter vs Tarantulas)
Wolfen
Kujo
The Birds 2 (WHY?)
And countless others...
