Allen's characters are, almost always, Upper EAST Siders. For example, when Alda strolls along Madison Avenue in his tennis shorts, obviously walking home, he strolls past J. McLaughlin, a well-known Upper East Side preppie clothing store.
It's rather famously known that one of the problems, among many, that Woody had with Mia is that SHE is an Upper West Sider and likes casual and unfancy, whereas Woody likes dressy and fancy.
