I think the bit about Kerry waffling is mostly Republican spin. I've started to pay attention to Kerry and what he has done, and I haven't seen much of any waffling at all. The famous story of Kerry voting to support the war and then pulling his support was because the first bill was going to pay for the war by backing off some of the tax cuts for the wealthy. Kerry supported that bill also because the White House lied about the situation in Iraq. Later, when the lies were becoming apparent, there was a new bill that wanted to spend spend spend on the war but keep the tax cuts, and Kerry voted against it. I probably would have done the same thing. Interestingly, when the Republicans accuse Kerry of waffling because of switching his vote, they don't mention that the Republicans voted the first bill down (which means that they voted AGAINST the war, if you use the same logic they are using against Kerry) and then WAFFLED by voting for the second bill. Sheesh!
I also don't agree with Mr. Cranky's statement about how Kerry (being a liberal) must support gay marriage, but he can't say it in public. As a senator (and hopefully president) he may (or may not) personally support the right of gays to marry, but that doesn't mean he should support making gay marriage legal if the majority of Americans are against it. We live in a representative democracy, so our representatives are supposed to represent their constituents. It's like with Joe Liberman. He is an orthodox Jew, but that doesn't mean he wants to pass a law making Pork illegal. Again, sheesh!
It annoys me that the Republican attack machine has gotten so good at controlling discourse in this country, that when they send out a set of talking points making Kerry out to be a waffler, suddenly everyone, even liberals, seems to believe it, even if there is no evidence to support it.
So it is us who are a "loose conglomeration of ball-less fucks" -- believing every lie we are spoon fed by the republicans without question.
