I've seen well over a hundred westerns. I've got almost a hundred (98 actually, I counted!) in my tape cabinet. I used to tape them off of tv and cable because my great uncle loved them. We used to watch some every single afternoon. I gave some to my dad, and traded some in at a video/music store or I'd have a lot more.
I've seen a bunch of them over a half-dozen times, like War Wagon, The Sacketts, Conagher, The Shadow Riders, The Quick and the Dead (the one with Sam Elliot and Kate Capshaw), and The Rare Breed. Back when I first started coming to Cranky's one of my handles was War Wagon and Zorro sang me the War Wagon song. That's a tough one to get out of your head all right!
One of my favorites ever is The Last Train from Gun Hill, with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. Some that I *can't stand* are One-Eyed Jacks (Marlon Brando), Once Upon a Time in the West (Henry Fonda) and The Culpepper Cattle Co.
I have the boxed set of the two Trinity movies (I think it cost me about 5 bucks) but I never liked them. I like most anything with Glenn Ford, or Jimmy Stewart, and Clint Eastwood is always good (except for Joe Kidd). There are only a few John Wayne's I can stomach. The Cowboys is probably my favorite. My dad loves Charles Bronson, no matter what kind of movie he's in, so I gave him Hot Lead and Guns of Diablo.
Have you ever seen Hannie Caulder with Raquel Welch? It's pretty interesting but waaay sexist. That's what bugs me about most westerns. I've also got a tape of Bite the Bullet with Candice Bergen, which was supposed to be way better than it turned out to be.
Lee Marvin in The Professionals, that was a pretty ugly movie. Glenn Ford and Shirley MacClaine in the Sheepman was cute, and so was Shirley in Two Mules for Sister Sarah. I didn't much care for the Magnificent Seven, strangely enough. I've got a bunch of western tv shows taped too; Gunsmoke, The Virginian, Wagon Train, Bonanza, Big Valley (oh my, I used to have big crushes on Jarrod and Heath when I was a girl).
Ugh! Stop me. The memories are flooding back... I've got both of The Lonesome Dove miniseries taped too of course, and a pretty good tv western with Rick Shroeder and Wilfred Brimley I forget the name of. Some comedies: Both of the James Garner "Sheriff" movies, Bob Hope's Paleface, Don Knott's Shakiest Gun in the West, Kirk Douglas in The Villain (Arnold Schwarzenegger has a small part). BUT, believe it or not, I've never seen Blazing Saddles.
What was the name of that character actor that seemed to show up in every other western? Ughhhh. I can't think of his name.
