12/03/1998: All this talk of Kristofferson, Elam, Pickens, et al

...has made em think of another great western - Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (okay, so it's another Peckinpah film - so sue me, I love 'em). Kristofferson and James Coburn turned in top notch performances, and there are so many Western film icons getting killed in this one, it's fun just to play "Hey, that's <fill in the blank>, isn't it?". Not up there with The Wild Bunch, but still a fine film.

I think Slim Picken's finest screen moment has to be his portrayal of Major Kong in "Dr. Strangelove". Masterful - now THAT was a cowboy.
