I agree, if you are going to be around for all of eternity why not wait the couple of days to get gassed, as you can tell he was in high morale the hole time signing and what not. Furthermore he may have been waiting for the publicity he loved so much (the film that was made) thus after that and he was proven dead he could tourment Hobbes and move on. I thought this movie ruled.
