If you may noticed that some Civic drivers drive like crazy, they're usually young inexperienced drivers with little follow up to rules and think tailgating a larger car or truck is going to intimidate the driver considering frontal crashes hurt more than rear end ones. Unfortunately this is what turns away prospective real Civic owners who want to own the vehicle for fun, safety, as well as fuel economy. Trust me, the insane Civic drivers have fuel on the last importance of their car. And some go really long into customizing their car in ridiculous dimensions. Do you see BMW or BENZ drivers putting a huge shopping cart handle spoiler on their rears? What's the deal with modifying your tailpipe to emit an annoying sound, does it make you sound faster? What's the deal with putting furry dolls in the back of the car (not in backseat), you want to show off your car is cute for some reason? Usually these are female drivers who are the more saner (though they never think of maintaining their car)bunch of Civic owners who have no need on making their Civic look stupid (I laugh when I see a Civic trying to look aggresive, sorry bud go buy a BMW if you want to appear threatening) Usually these types of drivers who add these stupid features are Asians who lack empathy (which i have half of) and more ego.
Comparing to other cars of this class :
Ford Escort : Better features, low price. Ford. Low quality.
Volkswagon Golf : Fun, offers low fuel diesel engine. Spotting quality. Offers a lot in premium compared to Civic. Made in Mexico.
Toyota Corolla or Chevy Prizm (same car) : Reliable. Boring interior. More smooth and quiet than Civic but less fun. Perfect new car for a stupid money throwing nervous parent.
Nissan Sentra : Reliable, but something just doesn't fill a certain gap as like other cars, except Ford.
Dodge Neon : Not a good car. Somewhere equaling Ford but with less options.
... I would really go for the Volkswagon Golf though if it wasn't being made in Mexico (that's why there are build problems not that Mexico makes crappy stuff)
So if you're out to choose between different imports like VW, Toyota, Honda... get prepared for the car dealers as they seem to be more sleazier on popular selling cars... maybe they're bent on the commission rates their managers give them or something. Saturn treats you with dignity ,too bad their cars usually run up a couple of mechanical problems before reaching your 10000 mile mark. All compact class cars have 25-30 miles per gallon. Usually those that use manual or diesel can go up to 40 miles per gallon. Or you can buy an expensive hybrid and don't care about driving soda can armor around!
