Jill, baby,

I didn't realise that this was the attitude you were talking about. This is not defensiveness - this is testostereone-induced male bravado. This is the Peacock Syndrome.

The kind of men that think this way are under the impression that women are so stupid that they can only evaluate men on their looks. This attitude mainly derives from the way they only evaluate women on their looks. These men are incapable of recognising "talent" or charisma of any nature either in themselves or in others, and are therefore incapable of evaluating people on the basis of perceived talent or charisma.

For example (and if I may be permitted to use X-Files as an example), they may be dimly able to understand why women find David Duchovny attractive, but cannot fathom the attraction of Mitch Pileggi in the slightest. By the same token their entire opinion of Gillian Anderson consists of "She's fat, but she's got great tits".

These are the men that I think you're referring to, Bluebird. Not surprising, really, as the human race evolved from them.

And I was using the word "tits" in both this post and my last one as indicative only. It is not a term I employ in general conversation. I much prefer "funbags".
