I thought it was a decent movie, and I just LOVED Frances McDormand's role and performance. But the characters of Jerry and his family, including his father-in-law, were too caricatured and not well-developed. They were just so frigging annoying and one-dimensional! I mean, what kind of shallow, bubble-headed wife does Jerry have that she just kind of floats around in oblivion about her own husband's financial problems, and sits at home knitting while her own dad shits on Jerry? Right in FRONT of her for Chrissakes!!! Jesus, if my dad were to mistreat my own husband in that manner--openly disrespect the man I'd married and have children with--I'd fucking disown him!!! I don't know where Joel and Ethan Coen get their ideas about human relationships but they ought to do a little more research in this area...too underdeveloped IMO...
