I'll agree that it alters a movie when it is dubbed, since it becomes distracting to have words and scenes not quite mesh up. I saw "Jesus of Montreal" a little while ago, a wonderful movie, but mostly in Canadian French. It would have been destroyed to have it dubbed.
But it you're saying that subtitles make a movie artsy... I *have* to ask... would that make a subtitled version of "Godzilla" artsy? I'd *love* to see subtitled versions of cheesier foreign movies. :)
