I thought this movie was a real trip. In sixties lingo, "trip" had the more literal meaning of something involving a psychadelic experience. In the nineties, "trip" has come to mean not only a pyschadelic experience, but a very *pleasant* experience.
Anyway, especially when approaching this movie with a slightly altered state of consciousness (having lived through this era, I'm sure you understand what I'm saying) was for me more entertaining, exciting, and exhilerating than the all the miniscule positive aspects of every disaster, homicide and horror movie put together. Then again, the bright spots of the three categories of movies I've just mentioned would probably also be beat out by listening to someone repeatedly scrape their nails down a chalkboard. Not to take anything away from Fear and Loathing. I honestly wish there were more movies like this made. But drugs are evil, so we'll have to stick to movies where the jokes and austerity come from the brand-name drugs some knowledgable power has told us are OK.
Have you seen Trainspotting? I'm sure you've seen Naked Lunch. Are there any other movies in this category I'm missing by a long shot?
