Crank, I gotta disagree with you on this movie. I'm clean and sober, but I think drug stories are HILARIOUS - Unless they're drug stories involving George W. Bush. The very idea that a man was so f'd up on drugs, that he freaked out the denizens of LAS VEGAS merits a film adaptation. I don't have a slavish devotion to Terry Gilliam, I thought "Fisher King" was a waste of time. But on the whole, his films are beautifully demented. "Fear and Loathing" is one of them. I think Hunter S. Thomspon is a self-absorbed fool, but that's part of the entertaining value of this film: A buffoon getting on his moral high- horse, gaping in wonder and derision at other buffoons and failing to notice his own buffoonery. It takes a thief to catch one, so the saying goes.
