This is a true story that I read about the abysmal state of education in the U.S. A high school history teacher asked her class, "What nationality was Martin Luther?" A girl in the back of the class raised her hand and said, "He was German." The rest of the class laughed out loud at her answer. One of them said, "He was a brother. He wasn't born in Germany."
I also read that about 90% of college freshman know who Snoopy Dogg Dogg is, but only about 15% know who James Madison is.
And I read this other story about this high school history class that took a standardized test on U.S. history. The highest score went to a girl from Germany who had only been in the U.S. for about a month. She scored 95%, which was way, way higher then the person who scored second place.
A lot of schools have pretty much stopped teaching academic subjects, and replaced them with all of the latest social theories on feminism, political correctness, enviornmentalism, diversity, and other such things. Some schools teach students that when you do math problems, it doesn't matter if your answer is correct or not. Some schools have stopped teaching cursive handwriting. Some history textbooks devote more words to Harriet Tubman than to the Founding Fathers. Whole word learning has replaced phonics in many schools. Which explains why so many college freshman need to take remedial math and remedial reading.
