I admit to a small measure of rage at seeing a film I immensely enjoyed being savaged. My thanks to the reviewers who, as obviously great Python fans, watched with meager attentivness, and then declared it nowhere near the greatness of Wanda, eradicating the lukewarm feelings many had for the film 8 years ago.I have read many negative reviews of the film, all sharingthe themes of its supposed uneveness, unfunniness, and how it is a mess thanks to 2 directors and several re-writes.At the risk of appearing intelectually efficient I belive the film would have received far different reaction had these not been widely known and had the message that this is a different film then Wanda been widely known instead.Instead it seems critics have viewed it with the pre-conceived notion that the film was an obvious disaster and didn't deserve to stand out on its own as totally different than Wanda, which was a romantic caper comedy, while Fierce Creatures is a masterfully done attempt to recapture the feel of the classic 50's Ealing Comedies, with a modern twist.Like all great broad farces it has dopey, low humor, and like all great films of the genre it's carried out in style and skill.I will probably get savaged over such remarks by the resident critcs here, who will say the humor was predictable, low, puerile and plain stupid.I can only say that such learned criticsm is the work of obviously brilliant comic writers who at the moment are finishing their brilliantly done screenplays at this moment, such as Mr.Cranky, who has shown in his hard-hitting articles on film criticism the wit of Pauline Kael,Clive James, and James Agee combined into one rather revolting combination.I am sure of his promising future as a caterer to the cinematically charged bile of such greats as the cloth-eared man whose lumpen sack of a wife almost fell asleep during the film and the always welcome opinion of those who have not seen the film but are stillwillingly ready to call it crap.I urge those others who are still able to stomach my ranting to see Fierce Creatures.I wholeheartedly plead its quality. If you are dissapointed my apologies but I believe this to be an excellent comedy and farce.I take pride in being backed up by the opinions of The New York Times,Variety,US,The San Francisco Chronicle and Time. While the number of these positive is small,I believe they much better show this film's strengths than my brutish ranting. While I have undoubtably offended some I must reiterate:This Is An Excellent Film.
