so far, it seems that no one has gotten the fact that this movie works as a sci-fi comedy/satire a'la "Heavy Metal"(the magazine, that is-most of the stories I've read in the mag over the last 20+ years have had strong comedy/satire elements, as well as heavy-handed social commentary in the European style-the kind of stuff that went out of fasion when Jules verne was a pup); any attempt to take it as a "serious" S-F flick is doomed to failure.WAKE UP!!!!!
