I have some very strong feelings about Fight Club, and likely for a biased reason. My ex-boyfriend is a very intellegent person, but does not exercize common sense. He has taken Fight Club as his motto in life, and when I saw what that motto was in a nutshell; I was mortified. Of course, I agree that our society is materialistic (etc). I believe that America is snowballing itself straight to hell and something needs to be changed. Yet, I can't help believe in one screwed, unified answer to the complex questions that we face. I am an avid fan of Orwell, spacifically Animal Farm, and agree wholeheartedly to the similarities. That is also what disturbes me about the movie-- the way it seems to promote these Facsist ideas. Like it has been said, the movie, in the end, may not be truley promoting these unilateral theories but actually rebelling them-- but how is that so when it makes these theories sound so heroic? To a young, impressional guy that has failed in society... it can get out of hand. It's not that I hate the movie, it's that I hate that it has practically encouraged my ex's heartless, shitty ideas of the world.
