And part of my tooth broke off on a piece of pecan shell. Luckily, there was no pain, because I had had a root canal on that tooth many years earlier. So I had the metal post sticking up from the root. I called my dentist at her home and she set up an appointment for the following day, even though it was a holiday.
So, that's the *good* thing about root canals--if the tooth breaks there's no pain.
My dentist told me that they no longer use metal as the post that replaces the root in the root canal. They use gutta percha.
