I can sorta empathize - I've never had a root canal, but I did have all four of my impacted wisdom teeth yanked at once (one was growing straight into a major facial nerve). The procedure itself was kind of pleasant - copious amounts of glorious, most blessed Sodium Pentethol will do that - but my life was less than pleasant for several days after that.
