All 19 episodes on 5 DVDs. It's awesome.
It is *so* cool to watch it without commercials, and without network TV logos on the screen, and without hearing an announcer talk over the closing credits.
I had seen the complete series during its original run on ABC in 1994-1995. Then I watched the whoile thing a year later on MTV. Buying the DVD set is the first time that I had seen it since then. I watched all 19 episodes in 4 days. It was a very powerful emotional experience for me.
I should mention one thing about it that has been talked about on the internet. A lot of people have said that the sound is really messed up - the audio and video are out of sync sometimes, there's echoing sometimes, etc.
But what most people don't know is that there is a very simple solution.
The show was originally recorded and broadcast in two channel stereo. This original soundtrack is on the DVD, and has no problems.
But, simply as a marketing gimmick for the DVD, they created a second audio track. This track is a 5.1 channel track. And it is this track that has the problems.
The 5.1 channel track is the default track. So the solution is to go to the audio setup menu and change it so that it plays the two channel track.
I wonder if I'm the first person here to own a complete TV series on DVD.
I don't know what A.J. Langer has been doing recently.
They are trying to get Freaks and Geeks on DVD, but they are having some delays because of the music rights. But there *may* be a complete 18 episode release, with all the music, towards the end of this year.
Universal still hasn't announced when season 1 of Magnum P.I. will be be released, even though they made their initial announcement 6 months ago.
I have been considering getting some of the DVDs of The Muppet Show, but, instead of complete season sets, they are on "best of" DVDs that only have 3 episodes per disc. So I'm on the fence about getting some of them. The timelife.com website has 30 episodes on 10 discs for $100.
