Okay. I have officially pegged Kate Winslet as an actress who likes to be in maudlin movies. She needs a handler who says, "No, Kate, not this one." Ditto, apparently for Johnny Dip. So why is he so charming to the boys and apparently refuses to have one of his own and/or treat his wife with a little dignity and respect? Same treatment as the wife in the Japanese version of Shall We Dance? Kevin Spacey's treatment of his wife in that godawful movie where he gets killed by his neighbor in the end? I knew someone had to die in this movie but I figured it would be one of the boys. I know it is factual now but just imagine presenting the concept to the producer. Okay, look, we'll do a picture that starts out idyllic and scenic and then strangely there will be no romance 'twixt Depp (who women are crazy about) and any woman in the movie; we'll make him ambi-sexual. The older people in the movie seem to have a grip on reality and yet we throw them over; we have Kate die at the end; we promote a weird, hard to relate to play as a flaming success; what do you think? Are you in? Proper answer? Hell no.
