09/30/04: Casting my vote

Posted By: Theodoric

1. Are you watching?

No.

.

2. Where & with who?

I'll be at dinner.

.

3. Who are you rooting for?

Neither one.

.

4. Who has the advantage?

Bush has the "Aw, shucks" appeal, Kerry has a huge policy detail/wonk advantage.

.

5. Is Bush evil or just incompetent?

He is a product of the current poltical system.

.

6. Who do you think will 'win'?

Well, the pressure's on Kerry, I think. He's got to walk a fine line between attacking Bush and presenting himself as the positive alternative to Bush.

Bush merely needs to keep his tongue relatively untangled and be himself. Bush is a much tougher opponent than people around this place have ever given him credit for. He was outpointed on the facts by Gore in 2000, but the general consensus was Bush was the clear winner overall.

Also, this first debate will be crucial for Kerry. More people will watch this one than any other. He has to sell himself to the people who don't like Bush, but aren't ready to trust him. If he blows it here, it will much harder to capture that crucial "mushy voter" vote in the remaining days of the campaign.
