It's great to have this thread back from all the uhmm... shall we say, "characters". Thanks, Heather et al. for that.
I'm afraid that for most movie makers, Profit is definitely the bottom line. (duh!) They are going to make what sells. So how do we change that? How can we get messages that contain more spiritual and emotional integrity to the masses? Beats the hell out of me ! Hmmm - let's see here... Well, the masses (we) are going to have to change what they value. Then the advertizing firms can figure how to manipulate that!
Does the "battle of the sexes" all boil down to a power struggle? Perhaps - but I think it goes deeper than that. I think it's about Fear - the fear we have connected to the societal lessons we've learned about "fitting in" - what's acceptable and what's not. And it's a hell of a lot easier to live by stereotypes than to acknowledge that we are all essentially the same - we as men and women, have essentially the same needs - love, shelter, sustenance, connection with others, sexual gratification, emotional authenticity, blah...
The above discussion about the use of the word "lady" illustrates my point rather nicely. I am human -I am a woman - I am female - sometimes I behave in a "ladylike" fashion and sometimes I do not. The thing is, I want to be accepted and loved (acceptance is love) for who I am, no matter what my behavior is !
Now, I know that's asking a great deal - but I am complicated and I find it increasingly intolerable to "contain" my authentic fully feminine self - just because society thinks I should.
OK - enough. To close, I believe that we all feel this way - we all want acceptance and recognition that we are the same, we do fit in, and we are all expressing different parts of each other. (yes, there is a repugnant Spelling Bee inside of me as well). Negates the need for a power struggle I think.
