The only thing the 'liberals' need to do is let them. The Republican party will be a broken party within 2 elections.
Unfortunately, the Democrats are the only viable replacements, and they're not a source of hope either. Hopefully all the disaffected conservatives and disaffected liberals will come together on their commonalities and start electing actual statesmen instead of pandering craven politicians. That would be nice...
