I can't recall whether any penguins died or not. In one scene, though, a demonic looking sea lion with glowing yellow eyes and razor-sharp teeth pops up out of nowhere and attacks the penguin who happens to be the main character of movie. Children screamed, cried, and jumped up on to their parent's laps. In another scene, a penguin is slowly strangling to death because he's got one of those plastic beer can holders around his neck. Being both claustrophobic and an animal lover, that scene really bothered me. I'm not sure the children in the audience understood what was going on there. As well, there are penguin-eating gulls and orcas scattered throughout the movie. They weren't as frightening as the sea lion, but I was disgusted by the amount of violence (ok, it was implied) thrown into this movie. I'm sure none of the children who attended will ever look at a sea lion again without seeing this monster.
I knew I should have left my friend at the door, but it didn't seem like the polite thing to do. Next time, I'll do what feels right.
