And as an addendum, I should like to add that had Elian remained in the United States, we would have held him up as a symbol of our "moral victory" against the noxious Communists. As far as his welfare was concerned, it was six of one, half dozen of the other, and left with a choice between the two, it's better to send the kid back to his father.
Indeed, it is a disgrace that he became a political football.
