So I can't draw you a picture of why my brother's experience informs and shapes my opinion of the Elian Gonzalez situation. But let's try it this way: Mom snatched Elian from Cuba, and ran to Florida, died on the way. Dad didn't know anything about this, can't see his son, can't talk to his son, can't do anything about his son. I feel pretty bad for dad. He is the logical person to have custody of Elian, and considering the "family values" line put out by conservatives such as yourself, you should favor Elian's return to his father, as well.
EXCEPT, you are a hypocrite (along with Dan Burton and Judge Rosie in Florida), valuing families only when they conform to your cookie-cutter mentality of what a family is supposed to be. Dad lives in a country hostile to the U.S.? Forget his rights! Good families and good fathers don't live in countries hostile to the U.S.! Why should Elian's dad lose all rights to his son solely based on where he lives? There is no answer to that not colored by your slavish devotion to the most reactionary of the Cuban refugee population in the U.S. Line up, ex-man! Uncle Jorge wants to stick it to you again! Say, "Baaaa-aaaaa-aaaaa"!
