While I'm the first to admit that "The Game" had the worst ending of a 97 flick, "The Devil's Advocate" had almost as high of a gyp factor. The "it was all a dream/illusion/vision" ending has been used hundreds of times, with many versions done in a better fashion (i.e. "American Werewolf in London", "In The Mouth of Madness"). Although it didn't leave me walking out of the theater mumbling angrily to myself, as "The Game" did, the ending of "Devil's Advocate" tainted that one as well.
Wishing everyone a Happy 1998, The Delirious Schyster
P.S. It was satisfying, even if it lasted for only a few seconds, to see the demise of a Keanu Reeves character. It almost made one think the film had some guts.
