01/29/98: WATCH THIS MOVIE AGAIN!

Posted By: Terminator X

Try watching this movie again, and this time remove your head from your ass. If you actually pay attention to the plot development, it becomes blindingly obvious that this film is not about "men with guns shooting at rich investment bankers"--this comment is totally ignorant, akin to describing 2001: A Space Odyssey as "bad computer with red eye blows astronauts out airlock". If you had actually paid attention to the film (as opposed to scribbling down the same tired, assinine witticisms), you may have realized that the game is actually an extremely intricate suicide intervention. Granted, the theme is pretty subtle evidenced only by:

-Nicholas' maid and brother continually asking him if he's alright (to which Nic replies, "Why does everyone keep asking me that lately?") -About 10 segments of old home movie footage, highlighting the suicide of Nic's father -Reenactments of events associated with this suicide(clown placed in driveway in same spot where Nic's father landed after jumping from a rooftop...) -Obvious parallels between Nic and his father (same occupation & residence, physically similar, Nic is the same age as when his father died) -Nic has recently been overwhelmed by death (of his mother) and loss of loved ones (divorce, disconnection from brother), which has prompted him to retreat into emotional isolation -Nic's catharsis is delineated by his jump from the skyscraper, after which he emerges with a new appreciation for his life--hence he is reborn, and what a fucking coincidence it is that they throw him a BIRTHDAY PARTY after he reemerges

O.K., so maybe this theme isn't very subtle at all. The purpose of the game is to grant Nicholas a new appreciation for his life, which has become self-absorbed and vapid. Through this process, his life gains substance--an element absent from your short-sighted reviews.
