The problem these days is some or most people defer to either the movies, media or read politically correct history books - a sort of "revisionism" for their history lessons. If you (editorially speaking) really wanted to know what happened in history you go to a large public library and do research using books, journals or newspapers of the time and read that. To be sure, there'd be some "embellisments" but the true essence of what happened is more accurate. Reading Caleb Carr's "The Alienist" is a good reference since Mr. Carr is an excellent researcher.
Just an aside - we keep hearing about the "Thirteen Original Colonies" - again, untrue - there were just five colonies - and "Thirteen Original States" - another mis-interpretation of history by the media and un-scholarly written history books.
