I have been a fan of the garfield comics since I was a child, don't know if it was the colors or the fact that all of the jokes were directed at adults and whizzed right over my head. There have been Garfield movies, there was a Garfield Halloween, and a Garfield Christmas, and the not well recieved Garfield's Nine Lives. These stood fine as cartoons, but I don't think that Jim Davis had a real live action Garfield in mind when he created the strip years ago. No, I HAVE NOT SEEN THIS MOVIE, but that will not prevent me in commenting on it. I understand that Bill Murray was the voice of Garfield. The original voice for Garfield was done by none other than Lorrenzo Music. Murray was probably chosen to give this horrid attempt at a movie some hollywood umph. Bill Murray is not a bad choice considering his voice and Lorrenzo's are strikingly similar. Odie was not originaly given to Jon by Liz, he was actually left there by Jon's friend Lymon, who appeared in earlier additions of the Garfield strip. Considering that this is obviously a film directed at young viewers and not actual idiot Garfield fans like myself who have nothing better to do then point out differences between the strip and the movie, I suppose I should let any other differences slide upon my actual viewing of the film. However this will not likely happen as I will not pay the $3.00 rental fee but instead will wait for the, (drumroll please) network TV premier. Somehow, I think I'd prefer a somewhat up-to-date 2D Garfield cartoon, it would not be a bad idea. Do the only cartoons we see in the movies have to be 3D animated, I mean if Southpark can do it, certainly Jim Davis can.
