He was and remains the only CGI character of value and even depth. I'd gladly live in a world with no Phantom Menace (and definitely no Matrices), but I can't imagine Two Towers and Return of the King made with a regular size Andy Serkis slinking around in a gray rubber suit. What can we do, then, but take the crap along with cool?
