Actually, most of the scientific stuff in the X-files is very realistic- at least so far as I can tell. I'm not an expert in any of the specific fields, but I have a very massive theoretical foundation, stuffed up with all sorts of miscellaneous info from attempting more than three science/engineering majors. As far as I can tell, all of the proceedures I have seen on the X-Files have matched with everything I've performed or studied, right down to the electrophoresis setup Scully used on last week's episode.
