I actually rented Gattaca last night. I suppose if I had Luna Moth's understanding of the science involved, coupled with, if she is to be believed, this film's complete misunderstanding of that science, I too would have much to complain about.
Fortunately, in this case ignorance was bliss. I enjoyed above all else the paranoia the film evoked, the constant worrying our hero had to do about the minutest of details in his elaborate scam. But then, I've always been a sucker for dystopic visions of the future.
The director did seem to have a fixation on bodily fluids; I don't think I've seen this much piss in a movie since Ang Lee emptied his bladder onto the 70's in The Ice Storm.
Now, ignorance is bliss, but it has its limits. Could somebody please tell me what those falling shards were in the very beginning and end of the film?
