The curiosity of the day was Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder's much-anticipated solo set — and he didn't disappoint. With his hair dyed blond, Vedder opened with a rendition of the 1964 hit "Last Kiss" recently covered by Pearl Jam before "pulling" two members from the audience to play bass and drums — who turned out to John Merithew and Brad Balsley, respectively, from the Olympia, Wash., band C Average (Vedder called the prank "a playful lie"). The trio rolled through an impromptu version of Pearl Jam's "Better Man" before beginning a spirited chain of covers that included the Police's "Driven to Tears," Talking Heads' "Building on Fire," the Mono Men's "Songs That We Know," and two Dead Moon tunes, "Running Out of Time" and "I'm Not Ready."
