In the actual events at Tsavo, it was two lionesses that did the damage. The director must have thought that the manes added authority. Feminists should roar in protest.
The stuffed hides of the Tsavo lionesses are on display in a museum in America somewhere, and look decidedly less than threatening. In a recent book. 'Millenium - A History Of The Last Thousand Years', there is a photo of them, and also a reproduction of the poster seen in the background at the beginning of the film, in the boss's office.
Michael Douglas over-acted to an atrocious degree. There was one very noble-looking actor, who once played 'Chaka -Zulu', killed off far too early.
