07/07/00: Another Bad Movie I Liked

Posted By: GarCar

I admit the movie sucked. Mr Cranky didn't even mention the incredibly lame special effects in many of the lion-attack scenes. I think it was Roger Ebert who described it as "extras running around screaming while someone waved a lionskin rug in front of the camera", or something like that. Michael Douglas over-acts, Van Kilmer stares blankly, etc., etc., but who cares? The important thing is that the lions generate an extremely high body count, with lots of panic-stricken extras running around, flapping their arms, which are eventually ripped out of their sockets. The dream- sequence where Van Kilmer's idiotic wife, holding their baby, is knocked off the railway station platform by a charging lion, together with the crunching sounds as it eats her offscreen, makes the whole experience worthwhile.
