Eh, I'm no anglophile, but uhh, wasn't Diana a regular middle class American who became royalty by marrying Prince Charles?
That said, while I couldn't care less about Aaliyah's death, I would rate it as more important than Princess Diana's. At least Aaliyah actually accomplished something with her life (a few albums and a supporting role in a Jet Li movie); what did Princess Di ever do beyond marrying an anachronism? Yeah, yeah, she volunteered for some charities. Big deal. My mom used to spend her free time working at a soup kitchen, but I doubt her death will be covered on the nightly news.
