Down in thread 59 of this forum, Grundle makes another long, boring post that most of you won't read, of arguments he copied from somebody else. In this post, he speaks of a need for free market capitalism "where real private property rights exist and are protected by the government".
Well, I don't see why my tax dollars should go towards protecting Grundle's property rights.
Grundle should be able to protect his property himself, without any hand-outs from Big Government. He's a big boy, isn't he? He's allowed to own a gun; he can protect his own property, without having the feds do his work for him. Especially if he lives in an enlightened state that allows you to shoot anyone who crosses your property line. If Grundle wants to protect all of his cartoon DVDs, *he* should pay to have a lock put on his door rather than take a part of my paycheck every month. He can afford all those DVDs, but he can't afford to keep them secure?
And there will always be private charities around to help people who are having trouble defending their property themselves. So why do we need Big Government to do it for us? And if we didn't have to pay so much in taxes, people would contribute more to these charities.
And if you have more property than you can personally defend yourself, you can hire other people to help you. Microsoft could afford to hire better security for their operations than the government provides, and often does so already. Why should Microsoft have to pay for security twice? They already defend their own property, both physical and intellectual, why should they pay the government to do the same job, less effectively?
Libertarians are just lazy people who want the Big Government to care for them like a nanny, rather than take responsibility for their own lives. This is just wrong. I work hard for my paycheck; I shouldn't have part of it stolen from me by the government just so that lazy people, like Grundle, don't have to be responsible for their own property.
