01/28/01: First time poster... Also a libertarian. There is nothing hypocritical

about you being a libertarian and realizing that taxes are necessary and so is gov't.

I as well support libertarian ideas and know many libertarians who realize that taxes are necessary. There are simply common needs that everyone which the gov't is best suited to fulfill.

Emergency services are something that cannot be exist as a solely private function. It is one of the few things done best by the gov't.

Example: If you're drowning and someone sees this, and they call the "private" rescue service, how does this service know in this emergency that you have paid for their service in advance? If not, how do they know you actually want to be rescued?

What if they rescue you, realise you were not interested in being rescued. They've done you a disservice and yet require that you pay them for it.

It is not hypocracy for you to say that you are libertarian and believe in a certain level of gov't as a good thing. It is hypocracy for you to say you are a libertarian but must subscribe to a certain ideology or belief.

Libertarianism isn't about small gov't. It's not about big business. It's about people, public services, or private enterprise not forcing one idea or way of life on someone else.

PS what the hell is with this crappy message board forcing me to give out my e-mail address?
