08/05/01: bad movie alert

Posted By: mosey

I really felt sorry for Cate B. while watching this movie. What a comedown from "Elizabeth"! And doesn't anyone south of the Mason-Dixon line resent being portrayed as a bigoted, semi-literate, cracker? Boy, if I lived there, I'd take offense! And the script by Billy Bob Thornton was laughable. It was surprising to see that most mainstream reviewers gave the movie 3 out of 4 stars. Why is that? It was predictable and full of bloopers that could be picked up just by watching it once. I think that certain "names" in Hollywood get good reviews because of their notoriety, not because they deserve them. The one good thing about this movie was the photography. The scenes of the Georgia swamp were haunting.
