...I thought I'd go and see this, just for the cinematography (although one point they made was that it should've been filmed in Panavision to better capture the battle scenes). No cgi effects in the battle scenes either - just real Chinese soldiers.
They also said that the story was quite impenetrable and that it had had to be re-edited after the distributors saw the final cut because it made even less sense then than it does now.
Still, the preview that they showed looked sensational and they did give it 3.5 and 4 out of 5.
