10/11/96: one comment

Since I haven't seen the movie yet, I won't join in with the others in trashing this movie. I'll have to wait until it comes out on video (if it ever does because it seems to be doing pretty poorly even for an Indie film in box office). But I did see a twenty second film trailer for it, and I think I can make one comment. Lili Taylor made a fairly big mistake by choosing to deliver her lines in a nasal, somewhat shrill voice that clearly isn't the way she speaks. To be honest, it almost sounded like she had a speech defect. Apart from Rosie Perez, I don't think this is the way Spanish accented English sounds (even when spoken by "home girls" living in New York). Listening to Rosie Perez in "It could happen to you" was a very irritating experience (like metal scraping a blackboard) and just about ruined an otherwise good movie. I hope I won't have the same reaction when I watch this.
