The Taliban are an extemist element and they will, most likely, continue to harbor terrorists and revolutionaries. The unprecedented war on terrorism appears to be somewhat broader in scope than simply bagging one Saudi millionaire.
Hard to say what would be better. On the one hand Afghanistan would be better off without the Taliban as they have made life miserable for the general populace and have relegated women to the status of property (something that runs contrary to their own religion) and have made religion compulsory rather than voluntary. Conversely, if there is a war many innocent people will inevitably end up dead. It's a catch-22 fo' sho'. Long-term stability has a price as does ludicrous short-sighted US foreign policy which has finally caught up with us.
